KRAFT Grant Press Release
KRAFT Grant Press Release January 28, 2009
The West Texas Food Bank has received notification that the Kraft Foods Corporation has awarded a grant for the transportation and processing of venison. This grant will assist in providing a great source of protein to West Texans who are in need by working with local land owners and hunters with the disposal of harvested deer and other game from managed lands. In cooperation with Texas Parks & Wildlife, land owners with Managed Land Deer Permits (MLDs) can coordinate with the West Texas Food Bank for the donation of excess harvested wild game, and arrangements can be made for the West Texas Food Bank to pick up field-dressed deer from the land owner, with the cost of transportation and processing of the meat paid by the grant.
Donated product will be processed by local meat processors into one and two pound packages of ground venison and distributed through the West Texas Food Bank’s 22 counties. Eligible land owners in Pecos, Terrell, Brewster, Presidio and Jeff Davis Counties or recreational hunters are urged to contact the West Texas Food Bank concerning pickup or drop off of game at 432-837-1580. The Food Bank will also take donations of venison or elk from recreational hunters who do not want the meat.
