The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) replaced food stamps as one of the nation's most important defenses against hunger. The West Texas Food Bank has a SNAP Application Assistance program to increase SNAP enrollment, including application assistance, education, and outreach to help West Texans overcome participation barriers. Assistance is free to applicants residing in our 19-county service area.
Thanks to our partnership with Feeding Texas, as well as a grant from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, the Food Bank has a Social Services Coordinator to assist hungry West Texans. The Food Bank's Social Services Coordinator answers questions about the SNAP application process, and helps clients complete and submit applications. The Social Services Coordinator also assists with applications for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and Medicaid.
