SNAP INFORMATION

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the program formerly known as food stamps. It is a federal nutrition program which will help you stretch your food budget and buy healthy food. SNAP benefits are provided on an Electronic Benefits Transfer card (similar to a debit card). Benefits can be used to buy food at grocery stores, convenience stores, some farmer’s markets, and co-op food programs. If you would like to find out if you are eligible for the program, you can use the SNAP Calculator at the USDA Food and Nutrition Service website.

If you are eligible for SNAP and live in one of the 19 counties served by the West Texas Food Bank, our SNAP Social Services Coordinator is available to provide assistance. This includes:

  • Answering questions about the application process, procedures, and rules
  • Supplying proper application forms
  • Helping applicants complete and return applications
  • Advising applicants on required verification forms
  • Setting up user accounts in yourtexasbenefits.com for easy access to case status and information changes
  • Requesting information about the progress of a case from the regional office
  • Assisting applicants who apply for CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program), TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), and Medicaid
